The Didact

What is my motivation for writing these essays? It is somewhat didactic. I want to reveal something to you. Not about me, about you! I couldn’t reveal my story to you even if I wanted to because we can only know ourselves through another.

Paradoxically, however, we can never know about others until we know ourselves. We could say that we can only know another through ourselves. We can only know others to the degree that they resemble us. That part of them that is unlike us would be invisible, that is to say unknowable to us.

So I write to connect to that part of humanity that dances to the same tune that I do, my confreres. We dance in the same dark night, under the same pale moon—patiently awaiting the sunrise—but not anxiously so.
