#12 Feeling and Emotion

“the ‘feeling’ associated with the present moment is
the most vivid experience we can have as human beings”

Our problem as individuals, as a nation, and in fact as an entire Global Village, is the inability to distinguish “feeling” from “emotion.” In Simple Reality we use the word “feeling” to designate inner wisdom or intuition. Intuition outshines the intellect and emotional reactions. Feelings connect us to Paradigm-A, the worldview of Oneness, the Implicate Order, the Absolute, the present moment.

In Simple Reality we use the words “emotion” and “afflictive emotion” to designate the source of human suffering. Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche says, “Being dragged around by emotions destabilizes our mind, our day, our life, and ultimately, the welfare of our planet.”[i]

“Listening to our inner wisdom [intuition] which ‘counsels’ against reacting, empowers us to refrain from perpetuating our suffering by identifying with our body, mind and afflictive emotions.”[ii]

Insight # 12 comes to us from Roy Charles Henry (b. 1938). He is the creator of The Simple Reality Project.

“The Absolute [Paradigm-A] can only be ‘felt’ not detected by the five senses. It has no form and a term like ‘heart-felt’ is the closest we come to that which is beyond words. And yet the ‘feeling’ associated with the present moment is the most vivid experience we can have as human beings. The experience of the NOW is in fact the only thing that has ultimate reality.”[iii]
