“birth, not of the old thing again, but of something new”
A schism is a division or separation within an organization or group, such as a split in a religious denomination, a political party, or an ethnic group; but also might refer to a separation of married partners or family members. Schisms thrive in a dualistic worldview (P-B).
Huston Smith in The Religions of Man (1958) revealed that a dualistic worldview is predominant throughout the institutions and cultures of the Global Village. In contrast, a worldview of Oneness (P-A) lights the path on the way to a sustainable community for humanity.
Insight # 88 comes from Professor Arnold J. Toynbee (1889-1975), a philosopher of history who wrote about the rise and disintegration of civilizations.
“Schism in the soul, schism in the body social, will not be resolved by any scheme of return to the good old days (archaism), or by programs guaranteed to render an ideal projected future (futurism), or even by the most realistic, hardheaded work to weld together again the deteriorating elements. Only birth conquers death—the birth, not of the old thing again, but of something new.[i]
That “something new” is a worldview of Oneness in Paradigm-A.
