What is happening to the American people? What is the reason for so much disunity and disintegration?
The principles of Simple Reality suggest that we are expressing our false self rather than True self, and therefore experience more fear than compassion, more division than unity, more ego than soul. The failure of our institutions stems from our inability to understand the structure of human consciousness, our failure to understand why we behave the way we do. Fundamentally, Americans are unclear as to their true identity.
Once again, as in the lead-up to our Civil War, we fail to embody the unity, the sense of Oneness necessary for a viable community. “The first thing you see is that some failures in the American response are less about the president’s [Trump] specific faults and more about a debilitating pre-existing condition in his coalition–a folk-libertarian hostility to all federal policymaking, a reflexive individualism disconnected from the common good.”[i]
President Trump is mesmerized by his false self and like most of us has identified with a worldview, a narrative, wherein the pursuit of plenty, pleasure and power has become his self-destructive reality. His narcissistic personality disorder is an advanced case of a long-standing global pandemic manifesting in a regrettably infectious degree. His prognosis is not good. “[The] unreflective Narcissus will never drag himself away from his reflecting pool.”[ii]
